The Country Mouse

I am not one to go screeching when a mouse gets in. I have always been drawn to their cuteness, so stick with me here. [Read previous post]

One day, years ago, in a different house, we found a baby mouse. DC didn't know what to do with it. She had always been an indoor cat and had never had kittens to forage for. She was attracted to it, though not in the way we thought she would be.

Our son made this caption.
A short time later, I was walking down the hall and thought I spotted a 'fur ball' [the coughed up kind] and it moved. Looking closely, like Gulliver, I saw that it was another mouse. It was holding up one of its hind feet and sadly looked at me, as if to say, "Look at my foot, it is hurt!"

Makes me think of Mr. Jingles of The Green Mile. No, we didn't kill the mice, they went for ride in a box to live down by the creek. I do prefer live traps.

  2. That is so cute. We once had a cat that was playing with what turned out to be a mouse. We were able to rescue it but it was all wet with kitty drool.

    1. Hard to tell if she was playing with her food or loving it, I suppose.

  3. I don't remember our cat Susie ever killing a mouse and she never killed birds. She could easily have caught a hummingbird as she rested on the garbage can. She never did.

    1. Sounds like Susie was a good cat. I remember Susie - don't I?

  4. I had white rats when I was a kid but we didn't have a cat.

    1. Lucky you! When I was a very young girl, a boyfriend gave me a nest of mice and my dad had the biggest conniption fit. I cried when he got rid of them, thinking he was SO cruel. Lol, to be young and stupid again!

  5. I love the photos, how funny, and the caption is perfect!! We also use the "live traps" but the directions say to take them at least 2 miles away, or they find their way back inside -- I guess they know a good thing!!
