The Gamble

The circulation in my legs and feet has been a problem for quite some time. I noticed that when I began reading so much this winter, I was so much better. I was reading in/on my bed.

I also noticed while I put my latest book together and spent days in my office chair - the old problem was coming back. I had suspected it before, now I was fairly certain. Something about sitting in that chair was putting pressure on some vein and causing the problem.

Last night, I took a gamble. I ordered an old (gasp), used, little bitty (to me) netbook. I figured I could keep it by my bed and write (or whatever) in my bed with my legs stretched out straight. I don't know if it will make me crazy, being so small, but it only weighs about 3# and supposedly the battery (or the new one I buy for it) is supposed to last for 9 hours. I am really not into the thought of lugging this Dell around, even if it is only a matter of a few feet.

The best part of it - is that it has WinXP or Win7 on it! Is supposed to come with Win 7, but there again - being used ... I can write to my heart's content and transfer my files to the Dell. (In a perfect world) There I go - planning again.

  1. Nice unit. I think adding soft cushioning to a chair that give trouble may be advantages. Lying too much is wrong for our human bodies.

    1. Been there with a pillow, it didn't help. I don't lay really, I sit with my legs straight out, trying not to cross them.

  2. Your feet & legs swell when you sit in a chair because they are too low. You need to keep your feet elevated. Sitting in bed will probably work. Hope you enjoy your new laptop. I had one that size for a while and loved it. I just bought a new Mac Air laptop and it is very light. I've never enjoyed working at a desk. I do most everything in my lap.

    1. Yeah, I figure, although sitting in my recliner is not good enough.
I hope I like the little one, at least it's not heavy like my Bleep Dell.

  3. I love that you got one of those thingys. I don't have one and I have a lot of problems sitting at my desktop because I have neuropathy from my diabetes. It's not bad yet and I do well when I get up and do other things, which is just so difficult when you feel creative and just want to sit for hours. All the best with your new tool.

  4. I have trouble with swelling legs and mostly ankles. If I keep my salt in take down, and drink water it seems not to be as bad.

  5. I have neuropathy in my feet from my chemo treatments and sitting is difficult for me at times as well. You'll have to let us know how that lit'l notebook works out for you. I've been looking at those myself.

    1. Will do! It may be just the ticket - OR - it may not be worth the trouble. It should be here in a week or so.

  8. Good for you. That seems like a great plan. I think the smaller laptops are very handy and I hope that it helps you keep your legs elevated so the swelling subsides.
