Country Living with a City Boy

This would be a great little family fruit farm, but ...
Blackberries - could have used some rain (or watering)

Bronze and Purple Scuppernong, just starting to set fruit.

Jill and Tacky Cat

Old Fashioned Grapes

This is one (1) out of hand muscadine with honeysuckle and elderberries growing in it.

The shy cat who adopted us this spring. He stays to eat ...

Some of the trumpet vines that took over the grapes and blackberries on the north side of the house.

This was a surprise wild plum, next to the apple tree that has no fruit this year.
Everything needs to be pruned, cleaned up and straightened out. When the house goes on the market, the new owners will have their work cut out for them, don't you think?

  2. I love the wild look. But someone who loves gardening and is young and strong will step up to the challenge I think

  3. Yes, you have a nice little fruit farm. Someone before you apparently had a vision. Could one of the grape vines be mustang? In Texas I had a mustang grape on a back yard fence. Blackberries grow like wildfire here. You have to be very careful or they'll take over your land and they are the devil to remove. You can rent goats for the job or powerful machinery. Bar ditches have long sense been taken over by blackberry vines in many places.

    1. These blackberries, don't seem to be flourishing. I don't know 'mustang' sorry, the grape vines are mixed, Concord, Niagara, and a sweet seeded grape. The vines were planted when this was the original farm place.

  5. You've got lots of fruit there. I wish I liked fruit more. We have a cat that comes to eat at the back door and now the usual, kittens.

    1. The new cat is a Tom, old and beat up. Poor thing, afraid of everything. Loves cat food, thankfully no kittens. :-)

  6. The house is going on the market? You might get a better price if the pruning and clearing is already done.

    1. No, the house is not going on the market. I was just saying ...
... that if wishes were horses, beggars would ride

    2. Just rename it the Food Forest, or the Juicy Jungle :)

  7. You do have a lot of fruit here and there. Our blackberries didn't do very well this year despite the tons of rain we got. It's just too hot, I think. Everything has dried up and I am too lazy to water. Have a happy 4th!

    1. Our blackberries in the front dried up too. The ones in the back, must have had all that lovely shade from the grapes, persimmon trees and overgrowth of weeds. Have a great Fourth and try to stay cool, Terri!

  8. What a wonderful place you have. And what is a scuppernong? And does Jill have a belly now?

    1. Scuppernong - name of the extra-large seeded grape type things that the guy who sold us the place said they were. Very, very sweet and come in what is called bronze and deep purple colors. (Two different vines, although we have seven or eight.) They make great wine that takes very little sugar.

Jill is fat, another way to say she has a belly, ha ha.
