This and That

It's been a week, probably not by your standards, but busy, tiring, and eventful for me. September is half gone though summer lingers on and on, a little warmer than I would like. I'm ready to sit on my front porch and watch the world go by.

That guy never did show up to treat our tree. DH hasn't had time to take care of it. People don't seem to really care about what they do anymore. To my face he was almost apologetic, though he didn't seem all that concerned. I suppose he thinks as long as it's out in the country, it doesn't matter all that much. I don't know.

I never got around to making anything with the grapes I picked. Sigh ... there is still plenty of time, but I really have lost my enthusiasm. The steel post on one end of that huge vine was bent from the weight of it. DH must have tried to straighten it - and it snapped. Now, that end of the vine is on the ground and DH has seemed to have lost his enthusiasm as well. Some days it feels like the place is falling down around our ears. I suppose I feel like that because I can't take care of everything as I used to.

The day the car was towed away, I didn't think anything of it until after supper - the driver was supposed to have given me a receipt! All sorts of things went on in my brain like, "Was he really from APT? Did he just take the car, key, and title and leave?" No one would know the difference, I had signed the title and the rest was blank! There are times when I wish that I didn't have such an imagination! It keeps me up many a night. I did call in the morning and the woman emailed me a receipt. Then I called my insurance company and took it off our policy.

What I really want to know: How do you save TV programming? I know that the recorder isn't working properly and I would like to save some things to watch a second or third time. What do you suggest I buy? I was searching how to record from my TV to my laptop and thought I had it figured out. I guess you can do it with Win7 Media Center - only, I don't allow updates anymore because of Win10 - which I am told does not have the Media Center anymore. Oh, for the days of the VHS tapes!

I am very tired today. Jack and Jill had me up late - again! There I was, holding a squirming Jack, trying to trim whatever nail was clacking on the floor. I'm ready for a little rain one night, so they stay put! I know that sounds mean, but jeesh!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Won't the grapes end up as raisins?

    1. These would be tough raisins with hellacious seeds.

  2. I know what you mean about not being able to keep up the way you used to. Breaks my heart to see things in my yard that need doing and can't do it any longer. The man who I hire to mow and trim doesn't do any of the extra little things. My daughter did what she could before she left to go three hours home.

    1. I remember saying, "I can do anything I set my mind to," twenty years ago - and I did. Now? Not so much and nobody seems to be as careful as I would have been.
You feeling any better? I hope so.

  3. I worry about things like that too...the receipt and did the right people actually pick up the car.

I never save TV programming, not even going to try.

    1. The silly things we lose sleep over, huh?
Certain things I would like to record, I don't seem to catch the little things the first time around. Not many I would like to do that with as I am not that big of a fan of TV, but some things are nice to look at a second time.

  4. i don't really try to rewatch something. i've saved stuff on my dvr for a while and maybe watched bits again, then i delete it.

    1. I've tried saving stuff to the dvr, but lately it isn't dependable. I think I re-watched "Avatar" six times - not a usual thing, I just liked the graphics or whatever you call it. Fantastic color! Some music shows are worth watching several times.

  5. This morning I had plenty on my mind, and was all worry I would forget something. The day went ok.

  6. I would make wine from the grapes! It is fun and enjoyable to drink. A second, less exciting but nice way to use them is in homemade grape jam. As far as permanent recording of tv these days? I am at a loss. VCRs were wonderful for that, but are now defunct. DVD-R machines are cumbersome and also hard to come by. If you figure out something, let us know.

    1. I was going to make wine ... (going to ... key words there)
DVD-R expensive and a real pain, I had one a l-o-n-g time ago, it's dead now, it was a real pain. Maybe they are better now, but the price isn't.

  7. I excuse myself from the "saving TV programs" discussion. I no longer have a television set but I do watch TV programs I like on Netflix and Amazon. Since Don died and I am (so far) taking care of myself I try to keep my life as simple as possible. Which is why I don't really grow things in my yard...I have the BIG planter Jim gave me...it now overflows with Liriope and another planter with my Purslane plant. Plus I have 4 aloe plants growing beside the back fence and 2 pots of aloe, 1 on each side of the front door. Currently that's the extent of my gardening. My front yard is still waiting for the man (who has his crew mow my lawn each week) to come and landscape my front yard (since I had him take out the dying tree in the front yard). I believed him at the beginning of the summer when he said he'd be here in a few weeks. I finally figured out he won't be here till his slow season during what passes for our winter. If he'd told me that in the beginning I'd have hired who I wanted to hire in the first place and the landscaping would have long since been done. I worry about things all the time...my mind conjuring up all kinds of scenarios...the lastest was when I took 2 Kindles to be repaired and imagined that all kinds of things were going to show up on my Amazon account...things I didn't buy. I'm happy you've gotten your car receipt and sorry no one came to cover the wound in your tree. I understand about losing enthusiasm...my doodling/photographing enthusiasm has gone right out the window. I wish I could help you with your TV show recording on a computer. There has to be a solution...I'll worry on it for a while and maybe something will occur to me :D :D :D

    1. I saw your planter - I think - beautiful (if I am remembering the right one)
You are so lucky to have streaming where you are. If I did, I imagine I would go that route too.
Have you called the man asking about your yard work? You could tell him that you thought he had died and that was the reason the work hadn't been done. (Put ice cubes and butter in your mouth first) :-)

    2. We've talked a couple of times about it...the last time it came up one of his yard workers asked me for my phone number...again...so the boss could call me. He never called. I've lived with it this long I'm going to wait til winter and see what happens, if he doesn't come then I'm calling the original company I wanted to use.

  8. I know exactly how you feel. We too are getting older and our health isn't as grand as it should be. living here on five acres is hard work mer have just had the, how much longer can we live here, talk.
If it went for our business being here I think we would of already moved!
As for the car thing. I would of reacted the same way. It's not an over active imagination. It's living in this world where no one cares and everyone seems to be out to get something for nothing.
I hope you get the rain you need soon xxx

    1. No rain on the horizon for us yet. Maybe I should get a rain CD or something to put them in the mood. Haha.

    2. Hold the phone! Er ... the thought. The weather forecast says 50% chance of rain tomorrow, perhaps there's a chance they will stay in the mood.

  9. I have an antenna for my t.v. just so I can watch my local news. Anything else I watch online. Hulu, Netflix, HBONow, Amazon, all paid subscriptions. All cheaper than our cable. I don't DVR anymore. :)

  10. I totally understand what you are saying about all the effort it takes to just keep things up. I feel like I can keep busy every single day and still not have everything done that I would like to get accomplished.

As for your imagination. I often second guess myself on how I might of handled something better. Unfortunately we live in a time that makes us skeptical. A lot of people take advantage of others. Hopefully, your car went to exactly the right place that you had intended for it to go.

As for taping shows. I have been taping on my DVRs that are provided by my cable company so I am not sure about other options. I am a huge fan of recording shows so my DVRs get a workout.

    1. I would almost bet you skip the commercials when you record something, right? The winter commercials are hard to take.

  11. How I would love to sit on the porch and watch the world go by. Unfortunately, I still have to get out there and do stuff and when I get home it's prep for the next day; I tell you this retirement can be so busy sometimes. I haven't been home for a full day all week. I suppose that makes up for all the times I've slept until 10am and done nothing the rest of the day.
I don't record any thing from TV, if I like something enough to watch it over a few times, I'll buy the dvd when it is released. My daughter K records stuff and her friends do too, but our Aussie system is probably different from yours.
