Saturday Night Date Revue

Saturday night arrived and armed with an extra cheese, supreme pizza, we settled in to watch our movie in the dark. I did head for the bathroom, as soon as I saw the bear attack coming. Whew! it lasted a while, didn't it? (If you saw the movie) About half (?) way through, the movie stopped. Had to turn the lights on so DH could see if he could get it going again. Eventually he did and he made a remark about it not taking long for the guy to be walking upright again. (He had been crawling when the thing stalled) We finished watching the movie.

I liked the movie, I was surprised that Amazon folks gave it a 4 star. The scenery (if it was real, and who can tell nowadays) was beautiful, and the story was plausible.

After it was over and DH went back to football, I took the DVD into my room and stuck it into my TV-player. The movie played all the way through. We have had a couple of the blue-ray disks stall like that and once we had a devil of a time even getting it to shut down to extract the disk. We are of the opinion that the player is not worth the powder etc. DH threw away the box etc the first day, so there is no sending it back. Will have to buy another player and keep all the stuff with it until we know it works. All the disks our son sent are just blue-ray. My TV player is only DVD. I ordered The Revenant in either/or ...

We're looking for a cooler week!
What's on your schedule?

  1. Glad you liked the movie and that date night went good after the glitch was taken care of. We are looking at some cooler weather here as well. Gracie loves it! My week is kind of up in the air not knowing when/if/how surgery for #1 son... but it is work and busy as usual for me in the meantime.

    1. Sorry you are having this trouble. Hopefully it will all come out in the wash and he will be fine. Hugs!

  2. Glad you liked the movie. It's based on a true story so it was believable. The scenery was definitely real and it was filmed in all natural light. In many places, they had to spend hours packing in to locations in untamed parts of Canada and Argentina. It got an Oscar nominations for cinematography.

    1. I'm sure this is one movie I will watch again - ignoring the bear, of course. I do watch a lot of travel shows for the beauty of the countrysides.

  3. At least those DVD players are not as expensive as they used to be. My first VCR was $550.

  4. I don't have any newfangled movie players like you do. I just have the DVD that comes with the telly. It's built in
But since connecting to Foxtel I haven't been watching DVDs anyway. I've been recording programmes I'm interested in. And watching those. During the day. If I watch anything at all. Hubby takes over the telly at night and watches sports, programmes about sports, or programmes about cars.
    Very very boring

  6. I don't have a blu-ray player but my regular player sometimes stalls and pushing buttons doesn't help, can't even eject the disc, usually this happens because of over use, with not much on TV worth watching, I watch a lot of dvds. The only thing to do is turn off the power at the plug, wait a minute then start it up again to eject the disc. At that point I usually leave it turned off for several hours to "cool down". Now I have a second player so I give them turns to prevent the over heating stalling.

    1. Sounds like a good idea - to have two. Maybe set on an open grid to promote air circulation.

  7. I haven't seen the movie yet but have talked to others and they too said the scenery was beautiful. I would have to leave the room at various times as I am really a weenie about blood and gore. From the description I gather there are some rather gross parts. Leo was on some talk show talking about actually eating raw liver for the part. UGH!!

    1. Yes, gross parts, in there not to make a person squirm, but to be more realistic. Don't think I could eat raw liver, not on a bet. I agree UGH!!
