Losing it

The worst part of this aging thing for me is losing my mind, not that I can't breathe, or my body is betraying me. My thinking is off, my memory has become a sieve. Oh, I can remember 5, 10, even 50 years ago - it's the past minute, hour, or day. Did I take my pills? Who called? What word do I want? It is no longer funny having to dance around a word, describing every little thing about it, and yet the word remains elusive. The word doesn't pop up at 3 in the morning either, if it did, I wouldn't remember why I wanted to use it.

I have been considering shutting down my blog. Sometimes I read over what I have written in the past or responded to someone and feel I no longer make sense. It takes me forever to write a post as I write a few lines, delete some words, add some words, and then I delete the whole thing. Maybe it would be less stressful to give up, except for the fact that I don't want to throw in the towel. I don't know.

I decided to buy a blu-ray player for here in my womb. Sigh, I guess I will have to have some help. Why can't they just sell a player? Why add wi-fi and all that other stuff that I never understood. It's all geek-speak to me. Why will it be necessary to add updates for the blu-ray? Didn't they finish their product before they started selling them? There are times when I would just as soon pack up my clothes and books, and just leave technology behind.

  1. Know exactly how you feel. Every time I need to replace anything in this house I always walk in and tell them
I don't want it to drive me to work or arrange my social life. I just want it to do what ever it is I'm actually buying it for
I.e. An oven that just cooks!
I'm not paying for stuff I will never use!
As for finding words. Omg! When did my brain have a meltdown. I think I need to dust off my thesaurus. Apparently there is one online but ya know. I don't know how to access it!
Please don't leave blog land. We will miss you xxx

    2. I find answers when I google then I bookmark. I have the longest list of bookmarks that I forget what they are for. I have a Thesaurus, but there aren't words for, "feeling of wanting to puke from odor," or "that thing that James did before his wife passed."

    3. wanting to puke from odor could be nauseated or nauseating, but I can't help with the other one.

  2. I agree with angela, don't quit blogging. You would be missed.

Technology has in some ways taken over our free will. The continual changes in software require our machines to constantly be updating to keep things working. A new computer that has been in the warehouse will require multiple updates to get it caught up to the one that is coming off the conveyor belt today. Nothing is simple any more.

Searching for elusive words. That, too, is maddening. Invariably the word I was searching for will come to mind 10 minutes after I no longer am in need of it. Life can be a real bitch.

  4. I hear ya!! But don't leave!! I would miss you terribly! I love your writing.. your style... your blog etc. which brings me to my question is it possible to buy your dusty trunk pt 2 online? I think it's one of the few things you have written that I haven't read. I just read your first Julia book again. Love your characters. On another book now but looking to read the second one next. You are an awesime writer even when your memory fails you.

  7. I don't understand all the fancy bells and whistles attached to everything these days either. I make a list of features I need in a player and shop for those. Whatever extra comes with it gets ignored. I use what I need and understand. Sometimes, someone will explain to me what a particular feature does and I think it's a great idea, but still don't use it.
Can you make a time chart for your pills and tick it off each time you take one?

    1. Sounds good in theory, but sometimes I think I actually took the pills ...and didn't. In the case of the little pill boxes - I may have the wrong day and will think either way and completely skip or double up.

    2. Is there any sort of "in home care" available to you? Someone who will come around and monitor the pill taking? My neighbour P has diabetes and spent a day in hospital several times last year because her blood sugar was out of whack too often, now she has a district nurse who comes in twice a day and administers her insulin injections.

    3. No, our insurance doesn't cover anything like that and there isn't anyone around that we can hire - it's not worth their while. We live 9 miles from a tiny burg ...

  8. I know EXACTLY... my brain is the same. I often wonder how I can think of something one minute and seconds later it's gone. That's why I write so many notes... but they can only be written as long as I remember what I want to write! Know what I mean, my friend?

  9. Hubby is worse than I am . I did a lot of reading and learned that MSM crystals can help with short trem memory loss. I have been taking it for two years now and this year I scored a perfect score at testing at the memory climic. I was surprised and very happy too. I take a teaspoon a day now but started with a half. I do not take any other meds especially anti cholesterol pills as they are proven useless against heart and stroke issues. I also do not use sugar or sweetners except a tiny bit of raw honey.
I also eat whole eggs because the brain needs fat. And I use magnesium citrate daily as it help reduce calcuim build up.
I believe you can help yourself as I did. Believe it. You are a good writer. You are smart. Google MSM and brain health .

    1. I wrote it down in file, I'll ask my doctor when I go in for my next visit.

    2. Your doctor will just laugh. There are those of us who prefer to go a more natural route to live longer. We opt away from pills and such except when really necessary like pneumonia or a stroke. Most diseases are a result of our lack of learning what our body tells us. And one main factor is our terrible food intake. I helped get rid of my stage 3 cancer by changing to a mostly plant based diet but had to leave out grains and peanuts. If your blood vessels are so calcified then magnesium is a good start along with MSM. Doctors care very little to get you better. Their pill prescribed diet is really not that great.More people these days die from prescibed drugs than diseases. It's rather sad. Blind faith in a pharma system is not the best way forward at a time when we have information to be well educated and make better health choices. I wish you well.
