Blackberry Winter

I'm sitting here in my heavy robe. I'm cold. The blackberries are blooming, I knew this would be here. It's the second day of a real cool down, commonly known in these parts as Blackberry Winter. In the spring, after it warms up, we still have a few cool spells before the wretched heat and they are called winters. It will warm back up in a couple days. I'm in no hurry, it's still better than the real thing. Ruth picked the best time to visit - before it got chilly.

I used my pressure cooker yesterday. Made the loveliest pot of ham and beans. They weren't quite done, so I had to do them an additional 5 minutes, but I will learn. (Hopefully)

Son J hooked up the new wifi printer on Friday. I haven't figured that out yet. The buttons are in an awkward spot on the top and my eyes just can't see them, with or without glasses.

Watching Doc Martin, love it and the characters! Not much else going on here besides the normal things. A rather large storm went through yesterday, the tornadoes  went through the same spot they usually do (E. of Waynesboro toward Lawrenceburg) I wonder what causes that. Had a wren check out the window birdhouse, guess she didn't like it. Sigh ...

    1. Wishing you a lovely autumn. Knitting in bed sounds good on the dreary days.

  3. Birds are fussy about the size of the hole/door and how far up from the floor of the house it's at. Some of the decorative houses they sell don't pay an attention to that.

WE finally got a warm day today but it will be gone by Wednesday.

  5. I need a new printer, but I just don't print enough stuff these days to make the cost worth it. If i need more than a page or two, and if it is important, I'll put things on a usb stick, a flashdrive, and take it to one of those places that prints things for people for a small fee.

    1. I don't like the wifi, all the updates seem to be eating my GBs. Have to figure out a way to shut it off. (The wifi part of it)

    2. Disable the automatic updates instead of the wifi, get your son to help you with that. They probably don't use as much GB as you think, but try the disabling of them and see if it makes a difference. It may be instead, that your internet provider has downgraded the allowance so you pay the same cost but get less GB allowed. That's what happened to me, so it worked out cheaper in the end to sign up for a monthly plan, instead of my previous pre-paid.

    3. May I ask what Dr. Martin is? I have not heard of a tv show or film by that name.

    4. Doc Martin is a series that is/was shown on PBS. British comedy. He is a surgeon who is sickened by blood.

  6. We had snow.... not sure if that's legal for this time of year.

My printer had buttons that I couldn't see, I solved it by borrowing a friend's red nail polish and dabbing it on the buttons. You wouldn't want to spoil a new printer, but I thought I'd tell you my cure.

  13. I was that way Sunday. It was so cool and rainy then and I stayed on the couch with the dog under my quilt! Glad you like your cooker, I don't cook enough to be able to need one of those.

  14. I'm glad you are enjoying Doc Martin. You mentioned Lawrenceburg and I though is she talking about TN? My Granny and Aunt Joan, and my cousin lived there. This was her last post with Social Security where she worked for 33 years. I have so many fond memories of Lawrenceburg 💜

  17. The weather in your part of the country seems to be just terrible right now. I'm so glad you are OK. It would be so much fun if a bird family moved in. I have a nest under the eaves outside my living room window and there are babies in there. So much fun to see them being fed by their hardworking parents.

  18. Love Doc Martin and the scenery. Idyllic village.

I think we must be having a blackberry winter: it turned very cold. Although the best we can hope for afterwards is 'quite nice today'.
