Rain, reign, rein go away!

Good morning, People! Monday, garbage day, rain, and a little rant.

I'll do the rant first if you don't mind. You all know that I read a bit too much of the 'new' author's works. Everybody makes mistakes, I make mistakes [in my haste or ignorance], BUT have come across this spelling error so many times that it is grating.
1.) The rains have turned my yard into mud.
1a.) It looks like rain again.
2.) Queen Elizabeth reigns over her kingdom.
2a.) He thinks he can reign over the lot of us.
3.) He grabbed the reins and did his job.
3a.) Rein in that horse, boy!
Sometimes English can be no fun at all ... I have been reading 2 & 3 mixed up for the longest time, until I was beginning to think I had it wrong in my head! I read a lot of westerns ...
Well, so much for that. I feel better now.

As of Saturday, snow and cold was predicted for last night. We even had an advance advisory. It didn't happen. It is raining and gloomy, but not going to result in sleet, ice or snow. Relief!

The dogs are being quiet today. They have hunkered down because it may, in their estimation, storm and get scary. It's a good day to sleep. I am tempted, myself!

DH brought me big breakfast yesterday morning. He stopped on his way home from work. Normally, he comes home and crashes into his bed. It wasn't until he was asleep that I realized that it was Valentine's Day and breakfast was his gift. I really felt, "Der," and didn't dare wake him to thank him. My bad.

The HDMI cables came Saturday and we hooked up the TV before he went to work yesterday afternoon. All I can say is, "Wow!" Son has brought me travel videos, movies, and space stuff for my comp and I just love the bigger picture! I'm very surprised by the quality of the picture!

Have a great week!

  1. Very sweet of DH to bring you breakfast...I agree with you about the spelling and meaning of some words. Can drive one crazy. Sometimes I feel that fingers are typing so fast that they get a bit ahead of the brain (like on FB posts). But one would think when publishing a book, it would be edited.

    1. I thought it was sweet, too. He wasn't told until he woke up. I still feel bad.
I agree, sometimes I just write on FB or my blog - it's seldom perfect. But a book, one where you expect to make money as a writer - that is a whole different story!

  2. There plenty of grammar errors on my blog. Some people have nothing more then to do and sit around and correct grammar.
Hope your day is going good.

    1. No worries with blogs or FB, not on my part. I have been criticized about my spelling though. (More like laughed at)
It's a good, quiet day so far, plenty wet!

  3. Of course you thanked him after he woke up...right?!! :) Over or under use of "spell check"???? Lack of learning how to spell in the 3rd grade???? I had a friend whose daughter graduated high school, started working in an office and the daughter had to call her Mom up to tell her how to spell words...YIKES!!!! My favorite words to rant about are: your and you're then I began to notice all of the spelling mistakes and gave up. What's happening is that there are words that will eventually be spelled differently in dictionaries because the majority of the population spells the word the "new" way. Bound to happen, been happening since there were words :) The sad reality is that word lovers will continue to rant and everybody else will do what they want :) Happy about your HDMI cables...so your computer is now connected to a TV monitor...great stuff :)

    1. I sure did, Theanne, and apologized too!
Yeah, I thought most writing programs had some kind of spell check. Your and you're are a problem, then there's their, they're, and there.
TV is now on wall above my computer, nice!

    2. :) I might have to give some consideration to a TV monitor on the wall connected to my laptop...especially as my eyesight gives out. Since at some point I plan on having my bed in the living room...I did that with Don when he was bedridden and it worked quite well...he never felt excluded from what was going on. Happy Wednesday :)

    3. Being able to hook up the computer to a 'big screen' has really widened my horizons.

  4. Yes, spelling is a problem these days, especially bad in electronic books. Makes you wonder what happened to proof readers. That's probably being done electronically now, hence all the errors. Hard to bear a eagle eyed real live proof reader.

    1. Hiring a proof reader is not cheap. I know. Some education and common sense should come into it though ...

  6. Glad you had a good breakfast for Valentine's Day. We just went to our country church, we actually had twenty people there and that's a crowd for us. Then we drove to San Antonio to eat Fijata (sp) tacos for lunch.

  7. If that annoys you. Don't ever get on Facebook. Oh my goodness. I wonder what these kids learn at school
The weather here has turned cool but only for a few days. Ten the hot weather will come back. I don't want it. I prefer the cooler weather. I'm sitting in my dressing gown now for the first time this year. So snugly

    1. I agree, Facebook is rampant with misspellings, but I take them with a grain of salt. It's only when I am reading an ebook (or paper book for that matter) that I shift into novice proof reader.
I wonder if I lived where you do, if I would get so used to it that I would be uncomfortable? You still do have time for warm weather, don't you?
