The Panic Attack

Being a card carrying Techno-phobe, I almost completely really lost it when I read that Win10 was slated to be an automatic update to my Win7. A few years ago, when I had to buy a new computer, Win8 had come on the scene and that was what was on the new computers. I managed to find this califraging Dell with Win7 installed. I already had the programs that would work on it, because when I upgraded the time before, I had to buy new. At the time, I didn't want to have to invest my money and my time, learning a new system and programs. I don't want to have to do that again and the older I get, the more confusing and frustrating it is for me to learn all the new crap garbage sh*t Bleep again!

Yahoo! has changed their page, probably in preparation for Win10, but that is just my assertion. I went to play my games and had to hunt for them. Of course, Blogger and Google have done their bit to mess with my mind.

Son said to fix the comp to 'no updates', but I have a feeling that this too, could eventually turn around and bite me in the bleep. This is the final straw, when my comp no longer works ... I will give it all up and clear out my computer corner for a nice soft recliner and a stack of books. Put a fork in me, I will be done.

Have a good day!

  1. Oh no, you can't do that. Trust me you do not want to do that. I have a sister-in-law in that shape & it is bad. The older we get the more we need to stay connected to the outside world. Our children and grandchildren are moving on to new ways to stay connected. Phones are becoming obsolete with the young.

I do share your annoyance with all the updates. It was constant when I was working. We either went to a class or had each other to make it through the new. Then I retired.

Retired I felt like I was alone on an island when the first major change came through but I knew I had to keep up or there would indeed come a time when it would indeed bite me in the arse. It's not for the faint of heart.

I have used both Mac & PC through the years. My preference is Macs but they are very expensive. When Windows 8 or whatever it was with the touch screen came out I jumped ship & coughed up the money for an iMac. Apple has a wonderful online Help site.

Our daughter bought her daddy a Dell thinking it would be easier for him to use a touch screen. Nope. She upgraded it to Windows 10 when she was here last. He can't do anything on it. I decided yesterday I'd see what I could do with it. Couldn't wait to get back to my Mac. Grandson will be here tomorrow, perhaps he can help, he thinks Windows is easy.

You can't stop. See if you can enroll in a class. How about watching YouTube videos online? Anyone among family or friends that could help you?

    1. I was just born in the wrong century or something. I'm not stupid - except when it comes to all this computer stuff. I plugged along as good as I could, but it has just become too much all the complicated. I'm tired ...

  2. Noooooooo we need to you stay. I will miss You. I'm sure it will be ok. We do panic when they start to mess with things. I don't understand. If it's not broken don't fix it. But the younger generation gets bored or something. I'm sure this is why they all have attention deficit disorder these days. They need to stop changing stuff all the take and just leave things alone

    1. I'm here until my comp goes completely, if I don't die first. Would rather retire to my womb than a rubber room.

  3. Please, it's not fun, but you can do it. I think it's a pile of steaming bovine residue when they change the things for no reason but change, too, but I still want to be able to contact friends and such that are ONLY on this monster, so for me, it's worth it to fight, uh, figure out the next great thing from the minds o computer stuff... Meh, you might even find that it is more to your liking. One of them, I think xp, turned out I liked it a bit better than the one I'd had before. Your mileage might vary, but ya never know.

  5. I couldn't wait to download Windows 10 and did so. I spent one whole week-end in misery. Was so happy I figured out how to go back to the old.

    1. Sorry about your bad weekend.

I want to point and say, "See? See?" to the nay sayers. Even if you don't allow updates, one day it will crash or some nasty bug will infiltrate, right? Then what? Mac?

  6. Just put in windows 10. Still getting use to it. At this point the only different I see is everything is brighter and no I didn't get new reading glasses.
My only grip on my computer down or up loading videos seem to be slower these last few days.

    Coffee is on

    1. It may have changed your brightness setting, if it bothers you, you should be able to turn it back down.
I hope it works for you!

  7. This is when I say 'thank goodness for The Golfer'. He looks after all those things lol.
Not sure what we have on the PC but it's not 10 - He does have 10 on his little lap top and always seems to be adjusting things and playing around with it so ai suppose it's all good practise for when he 'has' to load it ( on the PC that is)
Me - I use my iPad most of the times and the PC some of the time. If 10 goes on the PC and I can't cope, well it looks like I'll be up sh** creek without a paddle :)

    1. You are so lucky to have a built-in guru!

I wonder if 'We' haven't started to out-smart ourselves ... I'm not saying the machines are going to take over the world - I'm saying the machines will mess us and this weak system up. The geniuses of the industry cannot get it right yet ...
