Sidetracked - Waylaid - Oops!

A while back, maybe a year ago or more I think, I sent an email to the Minnesota Historical Society to ask about my dad's artwork. I was given permission to use what they had, but not for monetary gain, only for my personal use, and I had to say it was copyrighted to the MNHS. I decided to make a small book for myself and at least one of my sons. (Whoever showed an interest - that son would also inherit a lot of physical artwork - IF nobody does - I think it should go to the MNHS - right? There is no money in it ...)

Well, anyway, the photographs will be on hold for a while - while I sort through the thumbnails and straighten them out into categories. I will see if the Book Patch will make me a couple of spiral books in color. I think that would be a nice way to view them instead of on the computer. I certainly couldn't afford to buy all the full-sized jpgs from the MNHS. That would cost a bundle. I think I will take pictures of what I have here and add them to the book.

The thumbnail files are quite small - so the pages will be small in order for the pictures to be as clear as possible. Might be nice for me to look at when I am sitting in Shady Pines, you know?

SO, GOOGLE HAS OUSTED PICASA - WHY CAN'T THEY STOP MESSING WITH THINGS THAT WORK? Sorry, no pics until I figure out this new mess ... Talk about ruining my day ...
Maybe, just maybe it works now ...

  1. Sorry, you lost me on all this. I was never a friend of Picasa so find Google an improvement.

  2. I have tons of questions and I am sure none of them are any of my business. If the artwork in question is your Dad's why can't you use them any way you want to? How is it that the MNHS is holding the copyright? Don't answer that if it REALLY is none of my business.

I think putting them together in a book for your own viewing though, is a wonderful idea.

I have never understood the whole Picasa connection with Blogger blogs. Early on I went to Picasa web storage and realized that my cartoon characters are in there hundreds of times because I use my images over and over again. SOOO, I decided to delete a lot of the duplicates as to conserve space. I currently have to pay for the amount of storage I use because of all these multiple files. What happened however is that my older posts then had big black boxes with exclamation points in them because each of those images evidently is attached to a post. Now I can't tell which images are attached to what post so even if I go back and delete old posts, I wouldn't necessarily be able to remove pictures because I still won't know which images are or aren't linked to newer posts. All and all it's a mess.

    1. During the stone-age, er, back around the end of the Great Depression, my dad could not find work. He signed up with the WPA or some such and taught wildlife art at (?) the university. ALL of the work he did there is the property of the state of Minnesota and is copyrighted. If you work for somebody, the resulting 'product' is theirs - not yours. That's just the way it is. Of course, we can buy photo files, but still cannot use them to make money or display them where people could copy and make a profit.
Lots of people steal copyrighted works and get away with it - I would not want to mess with a state though - would you?

I agree with you about the files on Picasa, where I have deleted files before, I have those signs with an exclamation mark. Now, maybe, I have them in google - and I am supposed to be able to get rid of the overflow of snow, trees, flowers - part of the reason for getting rid of the unpopular posts. Not today though, I have 20 pictures in my 'Book' so far and I'm through messing with anything until I can send it off to the printer. (And then hope they will do it for the regular price - since I will not be selling them - it's a POD printer.)

  3. I only used Picasa a few time and total forgot about it. Have you tried your local Museum or library. They can hook up with the one in Minnesota.

    2. I have no idea, they didn't say exactly what. Some years ago they blocked women for showing them breast feeding but all kinds of that and more is on Facebook these days if you look for it.

  5. I have no idea why they keep doing these changes, whether it's "upgrades", which I guess is important to someone, or popularity, which I guess is important to Google, but it does make it a complete annoyance to keep up with at times... I hope that you can get the books set up and paper-ized for perusing!

    1. I thought I had switched it over to google pictures - nope, still not right. Why can't they be more non-tech friendly? Feels like they are trying to shove us all out of Blogger. I think it's all about millennials trying to mess with our minds.
Yeah, got my pictures all organized and then realized that the "book" would be too thin and floppy. Argh.

You can see the pictures here - ignore the army and party stuff. They have the artwork mixed in.
