Changes

It's this time of year that we bought our house in 2005. I suppose you could call this place a money pit, because it sure has been one! I looked up the pictures that I took just before we moved in. (Put on a new metal roof, installed a new central system, installed a tankless water heater, and new windows and outside doors the first year)

Lots of changes in our back yard. The little metal shed in the center of the picture was the first thing we tore down and replaced it with a larger wood one. After a few years, DH and son tore off the leaky, damp back porch.

We still had the cement 'patio'  and spent ages trying to get someone out here to help with the tripping crack. Another couple years and we put a new metal roof and siding on the garage. (sorry, no pic.) Then we put in a new kitchen and remodeled the bathroom and talked the man into putting up a better handrail by the back steps.

It wasn't until this year that we found someone to help our problem with the tripping crack and slippery steps. I must say, I do like my new deck!
 I believe we are finished!

  2. You've done a lot in the years since you bought it :)
I used to look at houses for sale and think I could make certain changes to make it 'perfect' or at least more suitable. Now I'm more fussy. I still look at houses for sale online and if I see something that needs too many changes I just flip to the next one. If I ever have a chance to buy now, I'd want something that didn't need more than a coat of paint, or anything at all done to it.

    1. It looked okay when we bought it. Hurricane Rita went through and whipped at the roof with her tail. First thing we had to replace the roof, haha. Insurance paid for the old one, but we decided to go with the metal roof and the spending began!

  5. Work is seldom finished when we move to new properties but at least you can get it the way you want it. I like your deck... wish I had one.

    1. I had shingles when they were putting the laminate flooring in, and then the kitchen. DH went to work right after they finished and everything from the cabinets was piled in the living room for me to figure out! Yep, lots of work! :-)

  8. Your house looks wonderful. Remodeling is fun, stressful and expensive, all at the same time. We did the remodeling thing too. AND we still need the gaps in our drive fixed.

  9. Looks good, I think all houses are money pits because you constantly have to update them.

  11. A while back, I restored an old house a little here and a little there. What I enjoyed the most was telling people what we were "Going to do" to fixer up.

Much of that money pit becomes a good investment that you get to enjoy.

    1. Funny (not) all that and except for the deck, our home value has only gone up $20K since we bought. :-(

  12. The deck is very nice! As far as appreciation on your home.... any increase is good! In my area prices are still very much below the 2007 values.

    1. I think we overpaid in the first place - we had to get into something before school started that year. I am really going to enjoy the deck.

  15. It looks great. Sounds like you have done a lot to it. I have done a lot of the same except I have been here for 25 yrs. It seemed like in the beginning it seemed like everything broke and had to be worked on or fixed.
