The 1975-6 version is longer and covers more ground. It's more like a play, while the newer version is more like a movie. I'm wondering how far they plan to go in this newest version, and how they will treat it. Re-watching the first series, I expected to see what I thought had been there. Evidently, I have retained more of the books than I had first believed, as some of the scenes had been only in my mind, left over from my reading. (I was surprised!)
I will have to say, the books that Winston Graham wrote cannot be improved upon by turning them into movies. It's just the opposite, but, the TV version is still well worth the watch if you haven't the time or inclination to plow through 12 books.
Yesterday, I was in a fog, I didn't even color, although I did put my latest project on my sidebar. I like the cards I bought to color, but the lines are really too tight. It makes for mistakes and it's impossible to always stay true.
I gave up on Vietnam. That's just too much to know and revisit. I will say that comments in that time frame were similar to now, that the country was being torn apart. That's history for you, we didn't pay attention and are doomed to relive it.
Until next time,
Take care of yourselves!
I've never heard of Poldark until now. I looked it up and it looks like something I'd like. I like that period of history anyway. Thanks for mentioning it.
ReplyDeleteI've tried watching the Vietnam documentary, too, but I don't seem to be able to keep it on more than ten minutes. But half of my post tomorrow in related to that war and the other half to what is going on now.
I like the idea that you're coloring greeting cards. So much better than having a book of finished pieces and each card is small enough to get it done faster.
I hope you give Poldark a shot.
DeleteIt's hard watching naked history. (Sans the made-up parts)
The cards are quite detailed, at least I have until Christmas, haha.
I have only watched the latest TV version of Poldark and I have really enjoyed it. I may try the first one later and would love to get hooked on 12 books about the period and Poldark. If they are available on Kindle, I may try them. I like his character and moral code. Plus Poldark on TV right now is gorgeous, I think, as is his wife and the Cornwall landscape is magnificent. I'm watching Vietnam and you are so right, history is repeating itself and I only hope that yet another war is on not the horizon. We're not even done with the one we are in right now.
ReplyDeleteI think the books are available on Kindle. Yes, Mr. T is very gorgeous, :-) If I were 20 years younger, I'd love to visit Cornwall.
DeleteYou did a lovely job on your colouring.
ReplyDeleteThank you, but, almost impossible to not make mistakes. ,-)
DeleteI read the books years ago but have never watched either of the tv shows.
ReplyDeleteDid you enjoy the books? The earlier version is not as lovely as the HD new one, haha. It's like night and day as far as picture quality is concerned.
DeleteThe Golfer watches Poldark - I keep him company. For me there's only so much riding across the cliffs and hilltops I can take :) I think series 3 was just shown here (war, death and politics involved) there were a few surprises though! 12 books is a lot to plough through - I got fed up after book 3 of Jeffrey Archer's Clifton Chronicles series, wonder how I'd go with Poldark??
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how I have this aversion to tv series made from books We are watching Shetland (adapted from the books by Anne Cleeves) Nothing like them at all. She also wrote the Vera books which got sort of mashed up in the tv series.
Mind you I do like the period series for the costumes and settings - see all the pretty things and ignore the squalor of the day lol ~ Cathy
I don't understand why we have to wait until the rest of the world sees it. ??????
DeletePoldark is more about the life and times than just whatever romance - I do love the settings too.
I have not watched Poldark. I remember when a show's season would go from spring to fall.....now you have spring shows and fall shows and they only have 10 to 12 episodes per show. I am just really getting into shows when they are done for the season! I hope you can get into your coloring, I have never liked coloring even as a child.
ReplyDeleteI remember when a show would run for 26 weeks. I even have some old, old TV shows with 30 new shows in a season. Now? Hah!
DeleteI'm enjoying the coloring. :-)
I think I was watching something else when Poldark started. Recall weeks later watching a bit but couldn't get into it as seemed like just a romance, but your description sounds interesting. I am very much into the Vietnam series as I simultaneously think about where I was, what I was doing and thinking. We're repeating aspects of pre-WWII as well as Vietnam I think.
ReplyDeleteYep, feels like deja vu all over again. (and again)
DeleteI don't think I'll ever watch Poldark, my attention span isn't what it used to be, and it didn't used to be all that good anyway.
ReplyDeleteI now have the attention span of a puppy, myself. I only suggested it, because I like it. The main guy is something good to take a look at though, haha!
DeleteI have never watched Poldark even though it's currently being shown on television. There's always something else that grabs my attention.
ReplyDeleteAll the new shows are starting this week and I understand that the educational channel doesn't draw as many people as they would like. My Sunday evenings are reserved for PBS, I like the lack of commercials and the lack of vulgarity.
Delete(And Aidan Turner is nice stuff ;-)
