Springtime strut of Mr. Mockingbird.

Here is Mr. Mockingbird. You will have to take into consideration that he was quite far away and I had to zoom the heck out of him. He was doing his usual springtime courtship strut. He walks a few steps and raises his wings in a jerking motion, brings them back down, and walks a few more steps. He'll go across the open space in the yard for fifty feet or more. Of the many pictures I've posted, I had tried to get a shot of the patterning on the wings unsuccessfully, so I was happy for what I got. In flight their tails are quite impressive too - I just haven't gotten a good shot of that yet.

We're expecting a nice warm day tomorrow, and then it's all going to go to pot for the next week or so. Heard snow was in the forecast for the weekend. Brrr. March is not going to give up that easily. I can feel the changes in my bones already.

On my last disk of Quantum Leap. It's different from what I had remembered, although I hadn't seen very many episodes when it was being broadcast. Still entertaining, but not as much as what I remembered. Of course, I'm older now ...

  1. Those birds really can put on a show, can't they? I think it is the Mockingbird that chases the cats in our neighborhood. The cat has to run from car to car and get under it to protect themselves.

    1. I do love the show they put on for their ladyloves. Our cat, Yoda, had clips out her ears from the mockingbirds!

  2. Revisiting old favorite shows and movies rarely lives up to seeing them the first time and in my memory afterward.

If we get Mockingbirds around this part of Michigan, I've never seen one. I'll bet they're fun to watch.

    1. I think it has to do with our curiosity being satisfied the first time.

  3. Never saw one do that dance thing, interesting. I've watched one torture a ct for about an hour once. Cat would not come out from under a car without being dive bombed...tough birds!

    1. It is interesting, to be sure. He attracted a mate the very next day, so I imagine I'll have them set up house in the flowering crab tree again this year. They come after us too!

  4. Love the shot with the wing detail. I never seem to be quick enough to catch shots like that. Impressive!!!

We are supposed to get snow over the weekend here as well. Can you believe this? One week it's 78 the next 23. Crazy!!

    1. Yes, I believe. I recall the heaviest of snows would be during the March Madness high school basketball tournaments when I lived in MN.

  6. Cool mocking bird shots!!!!

Some years ago, when the children were just kids, we had a mockingbird which I called "The Bathing Bird." It would light on one end of the back yard pool fence... Then fly the length of the pool, dipping down, to glide over the water, mid way. And then fly up to the other side of the fence.

He actually learned to dip down, splash his wings, and go up again.... Not when anyone was in the pool of course.

But we used to think it, the funniest and cutest thing.

    1. How interesting, I haven't had them take to the water yet. Most everyone with mockingbirds has a neat story about them. True characters!

  7. I really like your bird photos. We had a lot of mockingbirds in our hedge at our Los Angeles house, but I don't remember the white on them. Maybe they are slightly different here in the West. If I only had the energy to learn about all those things. Is Mercy Street good? It's on my Kindle Prime for free. Some earlier seasons. Thinking about watching it next.

    1. Golly, I don't know about mockingbirds in the west. Probably a variation.
If you like civil war drama, you'll love Mercy Street.
