Children of the corn?

I sent the pictures to our youngest and he asked why we were starting a 'Children of the corn cult' in the back yard. Funny boy!
No, actually, we are getting a deck put on, straight out from the door. No more slippery steps in the rain or ice, no more tripping over that crack in the slab. The guy is going to put in a wheelchair ramp as long as he's at it. We don't 'need' it yet, but it can't hurt, as long as he's building it.

We'll put the walker 'garage' by the door to be handy. He broke the one door, when they were moving it. It may not be too hard to repair. The deck will be wide enough for a table and chairs, and the grill with a server cabinet on the south end. The end where the ramp will be, will have space for the little 'garage' and the rolling garbage can. I'm sure it will also end up being a catch-all space as well ...
He's hoping to finish up this weekend, and then DH can start staining it. (The guy works a job and does his building for a couple hours after work. I think DH said his wife has cancer.)

  1. That's going to be very handy. Out of weather storage for the walker is a great idea too.

    1. I'm hoping so. I'm just delighted not to have to contend with those steps anymore. Slick as snot when they get wet or icy, and somebody doesn't want to have to glue something on them, it just doesn't look good after a while.

  3. You're going to love your new deck and it's smart to add the ramp. You should always build for what your needs will be in 10 years.

  5. May as well get that ramp in while the opportunity is there. Fingers crossed you never need it.

  6. This is exciting, Sharon. And what a good idea to go proactive on the wheelchair ramp. Anxious to see the next stage.

  7. This whole project is wonderful!!!!!

Wise to think ahead, for a possibility, while building. Perhaps you can look on the ramp, like having a tissue in your pocket. When we have a tissue in our pocket, we don't usually need one. When we don't have one, we do. :-)

  13. Good for you, no falls that way. My front porch is bad but only in the ice and snow. I took a slide down them a couple yrs ago.....cat litter from here on out! Glad you are getting that done.

    1. Our steps were varnished or something. Very sharp edges. I took a chunk out of a muscle and tendon a few years back. Big boo-boo on the front of my shin.
