Friday Mix

DH went to the doc for labs today and hopefully get his BP taken. I think his pills are too strong. He could hardly drag himself into the house yesterday. His BP was 98/68! He came home after 8 hours, but was ready to come home at noon. I believe it's the new pills. I remember when the docs were trying to get me regulated, years ago, it was, "Let's try this one," and , "Let's try THIS one." I was in hell for several months. (I need to do that again, but I'm a tad apprehensive.)

I took this shot a couple days ago. Tacky wouldn't hold still, of course, but I wanted to show how DH's tomato was growing behind her. It's planted in the ground about 3' below the level of the porch. It sort of climbed the wall and through the railing. It still has blossoms and several tomatoes. That plant didn't get staked and it has spread in several directions. I bet we have gotten over a peck of tomatoes off just that one plant already.

Sorry this is fuzzy. From my chair, I couldn't tell what it was, so used the camera (through the dirty window) to identify it and took some shots. I don't recall ever seeing that woodpecker looking for bugs in the grass before, but I suppose there are bugs for them out there as well. I don't see them very often here.

I sort of wish I could "see" the eclipse. I suppose I could hitch a ride with someone to Nashville. Kind of silly though. I can watch it on the computer, just as well. I guess Nashville will have have about 1:28 minutes of total eclipse. Hardly worth the trip for me. It will be close enough here. I guess a lot of folks are going to make the drive to get closer. Hate to think of the traffic jam of those last minute watchers. Ha ha.

Y'all have great weekend!

  1. Sometimes you just get a persistent plant. That is not going to let anything, keep it back!!! And your tomato plant, is one of them, for sure!!!!!

Oh mercy, can you imagine the traffic jams, and irate people, and area being swamped with eclipse watchers?!? It is scary. I read one gal, in a good viewing place. They are going to hunker down at home, and not venture out in it. Wise idea I'd say.

My husband's brother lives outside of Nashville. His daughter is coming down, to view it. With family, I suppose. At least they have a place to sleep/eat. Can you imagine how much rooms and food will cost, in those peak areas???? Make money while the sun doesn't shine!!!

Plus, I would never trust any glasses, to protect my eyes!! and read that amazon had to recall some, they had sold. those were recalled. wonder how many other of those glasses are out there, and will be used, unwittingly?

TV or computer! That's the way to "see" it!!!! Sezzzzz me, about me.

  2. It's a Flicker. I'm on the Canadian border so I might not even notice if it is darker outside. I remember seeing a couple back in the 70s, so I wasn't getting all excited about this one. They happen regularly enough around the planet, just not where WE can see them.

  3. I'm with you on trying new pills. Tom has had experience of this in the past, the side effects of some of them are not pleasant, puts you off trying in the future, he knows he's okay now so usually refuses to change.
Tacky reminds me of Daddy the stray that used to call each night for his food. I wonder what happened to him, better now to know I think.

  4. They're always fiddling with our BP medication.

  5. The eclipse wasn't even mentioned on the news here. It all happened when we were all asleep
So happy you got so many tomatoes. Garden fresh. Yummmmmm
Hope they sort out your hubbies meds soon. I'm sure they have no idea what they are doing half the time. Just taking slightly more educated guesses

  6. I luvs the flicker. My husband is sympathetic with your BP meds trouble. He's had trouble with high BP since his early 20's. My BP, on the other hand, is sometimes so low that I've been asked, "Are you sure you're alive?"

  8. Hopefully they get DH's BP meds straightened out soon, he will feel so much better when they do, that tomato plant has done really well for you it seems, sounds like a good spot for him.

We aren't in the path for the total eclipse by a long shot but my family in South Carolina are, I hope a few of them at least get out and enjoy it.

  9. Tacky is adorable and that tomato plant..wow! It's like a Jack and the beanstalk variety.
I don't know if we'll see the eclipse way down here, but maybe it will be on TV.

  10. Green woodpeckers dig for insects rather than peck wood on trees like their cousins. I too hope the meds get sorted; I am beginning to find out about upsets in that department.

  11. Hope the BP med gets straightened out. Never saw a woodpecker any where other than on a tree. We'll only have 60% eclipse here in Southern California. I'll try to view it if I can see the sun from my yard as may not have my car to be able to drive where I had thought I might go if I needed to. I have glasses NASA issued for free library distribution.

    1. I guess this version of woodpecker is a flicker. I had never seen one down on the ground either. Guess that's why it caught my eye. Glasses from NASA? You lucky! I'm just going to use the pinhole in a box system if the computer is swamped.
Doc told DH to just quit the BP medicine for now to get that out of his system.

  12. Like you, I have never seen a woodpecker on the ground looking for bugs! That is a first for me....Haha talking about coming to Nashville and I am leaving out! I am going to Granville to view it.

  13. I hope they get the DH regulated soon. That's no fun.
Jack could have used your tomato plant instead of his beanstalk:)
    Love the woodpecker pic.
    Enjoy your Sunday.

  14. Is DH consistantly drinking enough fluids? Often inconsistent fluid intake make it difficult to regular BP medicine. If he were to have a set level of liquid he would plan to drink every day, it may make it easier to be consistant with whatever BP medicine he has. When BP is low, more water can help elevate BP.

    1. I think he drinks too much, actually. He is too fond of tea and soda.

  15. Getting adjusted to medicines can be so hard. What a great tomato plant and cute kittie too. I would just stay home and watch it, the traffic will probably be really bad.

  16. Interesting photo of the bird. If tomotes are along the ground you are lucky the bugs don'r eat them.

  17. Woodpeckers often eat from the ground. then always look as if they struggle to take off, as if their tummies are too full!

  18. Meant to say also, hope DH gets his meds sorted soon.

  19. Ahhhhh... Blood Pressure meds!! I have been on and off of one that now I'm 100% sure I'm allergic to, so she has changed me to something else. First I will try a couple weeks without anything and see what happens. Right now I have hives from the one that she said would not give me hives. (I'm allergic to sulfa) DH's reading of 98/68 was my norm not so long ago until the sudden spikes started happening. I hate trying new stuff because of side effects and allergic reactions but ... I guess we have to do what we have to do. Tacky is beautiful!!
