Finished, Kinda, Sorta

The carpenters are gone. All that's left is the deck and a bit of a mess in the yard, which DH is working on now. Can't paint or stain for a while, it needs to dry or something.

I didn't realize how big it was going to be. Of course, better to have it too big than too small, right? I'm a happy camper!

  1. That looks really great Sharon. Believe me ours looks huge when empty but it shrinks as 'furniture ' is added. Nice to sit on away from public view and having the slope is good forward planning. Wish we had one on the days my back plays up. I have to use the front door and walk around to the back lol

    1. I like to watch the world go by from the front porch glider, but I think I will also enjoy the privacy of the deck in the back.

  2. Wow...it's a beauty. Lots of room for cooking, eating and just sitting.

And now yes. They always look bigger than you think. I wonder why lol
What a great place to sit and have a coffee and a catch up

    1. It's 12'x40' less the ramp area. I figure there should be room for eating and lounging plus a spot for my walker 'garage.' I love the shade that big tree gives in the afternoon!

    2. If I'm right, (and probably wrong) that's about 40 square metres. A bit bigger than my entire flat.

    3. I'm from the old school and can't think or visualize in metric. Surely, your flat has to be larger!

    4. My entire flat is 38.65 square metres.

    5. That is close to the deck! Small flat, but it's just for one, right? Bigger than one of those tiny houses people are so nuts about.

  4. It's wonderful! I hope you get to spend a lot of time out there. Do some research before deciding to paint or stain. Painting in the future will require scrapping and I was told that will really drive up the price of maintaining it down the road.

    1. I would like to do it in 'clear' rather than color. DH doesn't agree. I just hope he doesn't paint it copper like the front porch!

  7. Too big is definitely better than too small. It's gorgeous and now I want one. You're going to have fun sitting out there watching the weather and the garden.

  8. It's lovely, Sharon. I am envious. I think it's an American thing though, I don't recall ever seeing one in my country.

  9. It's gorgeous, I'm with you, better a bit big, though I don't think a deck can ever be too big, than too small.

    1. There was a lot of discussion about the length of the ramp. I just told the guy I wouldn't want to end up in the pasture if it was too steep. ;-)

  13. WOW...that is a long deck....nice. Grill on one end and tables and chairs on the other. That would be awesome! Glad you got that done. I love my deck, just had it screened in last fall and with Lily that makes life easy.

    1. I wanted it wider, but was out-voted because it would need too much support and the extra $ would be unwarranted. :-(

  14. Beautiful! You'll get so much enjoyment from your deck. Love the ramp. Us older folks have to think about such things!

    1. The ramp was our first priority. Have had a real dislike of those steps, putting up the handrail for them didn't seem to help.

  15. Looks really good -- with that w/c ramp appearing to be a reasonable gradual elevation to navigate.

    1. The ramp did take a good bite out of the floor space, but is better than a carnival ride.

    1. It's raining, not cold or warm, humid as everything. No sitting out there for a few days, I suppose. Hopefully Harvey will be weak if/when it gets up here. I feel as if I'm in your swamp.
