The future is now.
One of the gifts my son bought me was a virtual View*Master. He's going to have me buying a new cell phone one way or another.
We played with it while he was here with his phone. He neglected to help his dad put the app on his phone though, so it may be a while before I use it again. Yes, I know, I need to get one for myself. It doesn't work with a flip-phone. I really liked the concept and might even enjoy a real virtual reality set up.
He bought me a bag of these too - a Japanese company has a candy factory here in the USA! Real fresh fruit flavors - I was surprised. Is good stuff. Happy to see something else made here in the states!

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how it works. I thought it was like the old view master, but it's like you are in the center of the scene and you are looking all around you. I sat in my desk chair and went all the way around, to see everything in the scene. Even up! I was "in" Paris, and "in" some grand palace, and "in" some museum. BL showed me a cartoon thing with a pup that moved. I can see where this could be an interesting gadget for families.
DeleteYou put the app on your phone, stick your phone in the view-master and use it that way.

DeleteToday we live in a gadgeteria. My husband and I have dinosaur cell phones. I'll say, "I'd like to take a picture of that." The other person will say, "Use your phone." I reply, "What???" I know it's possible to take a picture even with our no-frills phones, but to me, phones are phones and cameras are cameras. Besides, I've had a nice camera for nearly 10 years and still don't know the half of what it can do. Maybe I should get out the instruction booklet someday . . .
ReplyDeleteAbout the same for me with my flip phone. I was in no hurry to get the fancy one - until now. My good camera has problems with shutter speed.
DeleteMy daughter got a VR headset and it seems like it would be a lot of fun to play with. Kind of has me in the mood as well. She had enjoyed taking tours of cities virtually. I do see that this type of technology is a double edge sword though. We probably will have a lot of preoccupied users that don't know what is going on in the real world.

ReplyDeleteHey. That VR Viewmaster sounds super cool. I may have to check into that myself. I have a "smart" phone and I love it. It's my computer and info station of all things me. I suppose I shouldn't put all of my eggs in one basket as it were because if I ever lost my phone I wouldn't know what appts. I had or anybody's phone numbers.
