Good Sunday, Folks.

It's hard to believe that summer is acting like it wants to wind down already. The big trees are getting that dark, dirty green look. At night, the bugs are making so much noise that Jill wants company outside to go potty. She was so used to Jack going out with her. Our little garden has sprawled all over the bed. The peppers have pretty much finished doing their thing. The tomatoes are getting smaller. I did make 4 pints of pickled peppers, took me the whole day. (Thought my back was breaking) As long as they last, I have proof that we did have a little summer garden. My "Naked Ladies" bloomed with little recognition beyond a glance.

It's a cloudy day. The weather forecast shows chance of rain for next several days. I hope we actually get some. It's terribly dry out there, although humidity is a problem.

I looked through the toy boxes, trying to find a favorite of Jack's. I will put what is left of his tiger in his little box. It's really just a scrap anymore, but it had been a tiger hand puppet that he loved playing with. Jill helped me look and found a couple of her things, which she dragged to her bed.

I think I have the blog settings right now, if not, let me know. Thanks.

  1. Great to see you blogging again. Are you making a shadow box or memory box for Jack? I did a photo frame of all the dogs I've had in my life time starting when I was a baby. Poor Jill. I'm glad she's got you.

    1. Sounds like a plan, but I am not ready to do that yet.
      Yep, poor Jill ...

  3. Yes it IS good to see you back. It'll take a little time Sharon - remember the slower you go the faster you'll get there. Leroy was my last loss, several years ago now and I still tear up when I see photos of him
Did your indoor tomatoes fruit in the end?

    1. I ended up putting it outside. It's not been wonderful, but I have been getting some. I needed the room in here.

  4. Did Peter Piper help you pickle your peppers? (Just some dumb humor.. ) I am glad you are blogging again too. Sometimes it takes me a while to get here to read but I so enjoy your writing! I think about you and Jack and I cannot even imagine the empty spot in your home and in your heart without him there. I sometimes look at Gracie and try to mentally prepare myself... but I don't think we are ever fully prepared. I'm enjoying cooler days here, tho swimming is out. I wish you lived close... we would definately do ssome pool therapy together!! Take care and have a good week.

    1. There was no way to mentally prepare, it happened so fast. Jack should still be with me.

    2. Sharon forgive me if you'd rather not answer, I don't think you've ever said but what was it that took Jack from you? Was he sick or did he get hit on the road

    3. DH was going to go somewhere, Jack went running out to 'help'. DH didn't see him and ran him over. It was a freak accident. The vet did every thing she could to save him.

  5. We do tend to over do. Rest now. I hope it doesn't get too humid. I don't like that at all
Winter still has us in its death grip here, making us all feel miserable
    Take care xx

  6. I wish summer were winding down here. My poor garden is just a mass of weeds waiting for cooler weather and me to return.
Glad you're back blogging, it's hard, but we have to go on.

    1. I tried pulling the weeds in the yard hole - waste of time. I did more damage than good.

  7. Sorry for your loss. Seems we've reached an age when family, friends leave us behind and the loss of pets magnifies the feelings. Hope you get some rain as I wish we would, too. Humidity has been unusually high for us.

  8. The humidity is really magnified after the cooling rain goes away, sort of like turning the oven on, but I'd still take the rain.

  9. "The weather forecast shows chance of rain for next several days"
    So does ours!
Of course we are in winter here (*~*)
And my bones are aching with it, I must be getting old.
I still have a couple of toys that Angel never wanted to play with, he wasn't a "toy" cat, but Lola found the tiny mouse with a bell on its tail and played with it for a few minutes.

  10. Summer wound down before it started in the UK. I do remember a heat wave lasting three days but the rest has been pretty dire.

  11. Almost got tears in my eyes over your mentioning Jack's little tiger. Something about that was just so sweet.

  12. Didn't know that anything was wrong with your blog settings, that we could see. you had trouble putting photos in the order you wanted, but that doesn't matter to us.

Wonderful in-the-kitchen accomplishment. Hope it will be worth, an aching back!

For you, abundance is running down. Here, we had such a wet and cool time of it, that vegetables are just starting to come to the farm stand. But... Means we will have fresh corn and tomatoes, later!!!

Hope doing these things, will help the ache in your heart, about Jack.

    Many gentle hugs, Luna Crone

    We're expecting the rain too.

  15. So sorry you are missing Jack so much...it is hard losing a fur baby. I have noticed things changing in the air also. I was thinking it was the dry heat with no rain but I could be wrong. We have had several days with good rains. It helps.

  16. It was cool enough for long pants and a long sleeved shirt here today (55 degrees) which should not be in August! I agree! I again sympathize about Jack. It is so hard to lose a loved pet and companion.

  17. It's cooling off out here as well. Low 90's which is a blessing over triple digits let me tell you. We also have a chance of rain but only for one day and only a 30% chance. We probably won't get but a 5 minute sprinkle but every little bit helps, huh? I'm still so sorry about Jack. It's so hard and I know how much you miss him, and clearly Jill misses him too. Will she snuggle up with one of his toys?

    1. Jill still respects 'the boss' and leaves his toys alone. (For now?)

  20. This time of year just prompts our gardens to look "uninspired". Everything is winding down in my gardens as far as blooming and some of the shrubs could use a good pruning. I am hesitate to do anything due to the ongoing high temps. I am holding out for cooler weather before doing much in the way of reworking the garden beds.

AWWWW.... I know that Jack's absence is hard for you and Jill and I continue to send my sympathetic thoughts your way.
