Life without Jack

Today would have been Jack's 11th Gottcha Day. It's a sad day for me. I need to turn that around and be happy I had him for as long as I did. We had Jack for 10 years 11 months. He was one of the exceptional joys in my life, a gift lost too soon, but while he was with us I have to say he was a true blessing.

I still go through crying jags, missing him. I'm working on it, though I don't know that I should hold my sadness in. Maybe I expect myself to 'get over it' too soon. I don't know.

Jill seems 'better.' She seems to have stopped searching for him. In spite of all the damage she caused as a pup, she must have taken all other clues about living a dogs life from Jack. She rarely barks, or howls the way she used to. In reflection, she let Jack start those reactions first. I have started trying to get her excited when the garbage guys come, when the O2 man comes, when the UPS man is driving into the driveway. I get a happy, tail wagging response now, but no loud barking the way she used to. Jill is almost a different girl.

Pictures are mixed up. I will not be commenting, this is hard enough to do. Thank You for your patience.

  1. It is so hard to lose the ones we love. I don't think it's a thing you can rush. I still miss my MJ and Mushu and Millie. I think I always will. Hugs.

  2. God does not give us dogs, they are only on loan.

  3. Losing a beloved pet is not something you can "get over" on someone else's time table. Knowing you need to turn things around to being grateful for the time you had together is a crack in your grief. I'm glad Jill is doing better. Jack sure was cute! When I lost my last dog it really helped me to start writing stories about all the funny and smart things he did to enrich my life.

  4. It is so hard to lose a family member like that, and our pets are family members. Keep the good memories of him.

  5. Pets are definitely like members of the family, it's a shame their time is so short.

Nice pictures thank you for sharing.

  6. Oh I'm so sorry for your loss. I must of missed the post
It's so very hard when we lose one of our fur babies. Be gentle with yourself
You don't need to get over it. You need to get through it and it can and will take time

  7. I understand the sorrow and the crying. It's terribly hard to lose a loved pet, and there is no time limit involved. You don't need to be 'over it'. Just, one day in the future, maybe the far far future, the hurt will be a little less.

  8. Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of losing my last Labrador. It does get easier but naturally we will never forget our furry friends.

  10. I am so sorry for your loss of Jack. It is hard losing a member of our family, esp. our fur babies cause they love without ever wanting anything in return but to be loved back.

  11. I so wish that dogs lived as long as us. It really is heartbreaking when they leave us. Everyone grieves differently and you cry as much as you want, whenever you want. You've lost a family member. You should be crying. <3 Sending hugs from Idaho.

  12. I hope it will be good for you, to be back to blogging.

"They say" that writing things down, is beneficial. So, why not typing them, in blogging? Get them out. Say them. What can it hurt? You hurt, already. And maybe, it will help....

And just to know that friends, are feeling for you... Has to 'help' a little.

We intellectually know, that loss gets less awful, with time. But each person, has to take a different amount of time. Please don't "expect" anything, of yourself. You will take the amount of time, that YOU need, to come to terms with this loss.

    Gentle hugs,
    Luna Crone
