Old Bones

Sigh ... I had an odd beginning to my day. I put Jill out for her duties and I spotted a trio of deer across the road. I haven't seen any in quite some time and it was a pleasure to watch them munching on the early spring grasses. I ran (you know I really didn't, it's just a figure of speech, haha) to get my camera. The results are on my header. I know I said a trio, but they didn't stick together enough for a decent shot.

The deer didn't pay any attention to Jill's threats, so I sat down in the doorway to watch them for a while. When they finally moved on, I realized that I was stuck on the floor. I guess I am ready for one of those call buttons. I began to crawl to my chair (about 10') when my knees began screaming. I was next to my little roll-top and decided to rest for a bit to revisit the junk on the lower shelves of the desk.

I haven't looked at that old stuff for ages. There is quite a stash of old silver plate that I bought to make rings and other crafts until I found out I didn't have any strength in my hands. So, there they all sit. Useless. Mostly beautiful patterns, but useless ... There are some pieces in the box that someone actually tried to scrape off the silver. Senseless waste of time.

By the time I packed it all up again, crawled to my chair, and made it back to my desk - the clock said 11:15! My whole morning was shot. Time does fly by, doesn't it?

You can kinda see why I don't get anything done and my blogging has gotten so sketchy. Guess it's just these old bones attached to an old slow butt ...

  1. What an absolutely beautiful photo! Very arty farty---like a watercolor and worth a morning stuck on the floor in my opinion. I've been stuck on the floor a time or two and trust me, you'll get better at remembering not to get in that position again. a low stool can help a lot in getting yourself back up again.

    1. Thank you, Jean. I will keep that in mind- if I don't forget. ;-)

  2. Believe me you are not the only one. We went for a walk around the park last night, it was a lovely night but we haven't been walking for a while and the short walk resulted in screaming knees and my hip was just about shot by the time we got to the car. Trouble is, in my head I see myself marching around the paths just like I used to. Who am I kidding. lol

  3. I've been in the 'down and can't get back up' situation. Most frustrating.

  5. Hi Sharon. Glad to see another post from you :-) Getting old just isn't easy at all. And I hear you about the "old bones". I have crunches and pains in my joints that weren't there a few years ago! Hang it there. It's always good to hear from you. Oh, and the picture is beautiful!

  6. You are sooooo not alone. Working in the garden I have had to crawl across the lawn to get to something I could pull myself up on. Undignified, slow and painful.
Love your deer photo. And would have happily sat on the floor to get it, despite the difficulties of getting up again.

  7. But you did get to watch three deer being part of our beautiful nature, not wasted time at all.

  8. Wow. What a photo.. I'm sorry you were stuck on the floor but I giggled a little when you wrote, "Time does fly by, doesn't it?" I thought, or in your case, crawls by. ;) Great seeing your posts, Sharon. Waving from Idaho.

  9. But what a great photo you got :)
You might have to start thinking about a mobility scooter, would one of those work where you are? Do you have enough level space to get around in one?

  10. I really think that once we start to explore old stuff we have, we enter a time warp.
I can lose hours cleaning out old drawers and cupboards
Apparently my bones aren’t that old. But I can get stuck down on the floor as well
Getting down is easy. Gettting up? That’s a whole other story

  11. I have had to learn new ways of getting up from the floor. Thankfully knowing some old yoga postures has helped. Love the photo and I'm quite envious that you had some deer so close to home.

  13. The weather don't help with our old bones. I noticed lately that my knees ache going up the stairs....only a start I am sure. STAY OFF THE FLOOR!!!

  14. Oh my, I had to comment for the first time. I joke that I can get down, but not up. Getting up for me requires being on my knees, using my arms so much they hurt, getting half up and getting the rest of the way up. Although in my case, I also cannot bend over properly, lol.

  15. I think we are all right in there with you. John has one of those call buttons and a few nights ago he hit his wrist on the chest-of-drawers and broke it all to pieces, the call button not the chest-of-drawers. lol

  16. Sorry to hear you had problems getting up. Maturing certainly brings challenges doesn't it? Let's blame it on gravity:)
You sure got a beautiful picture.

  17. Very sorry about the struggle to get up. For me, I have found that purposeful practice will strengthen my abilities in that regard. So, you may want to consider working towards a pattern or method to do that regularly.

  19. this is why i am scared of extremely low temperatures dear Sharon!

since i started to take my vitamins for joint pains i listen LESS cracking voices of my bones and how bad that i can't increase the doze as doc advised because it makes me so sleepy and i can't afford to be lazy as i have to lookafter my big house and small family as well!

in spite of your LOVELY BONES you took great shot!

  20. Oh dear, that sounds painful. Glad you found a way of making use of the time - to some extent!
How wonderful to see deer just across from you like that.

I am just getting a knobbly knuckle and I fear it is the beginning ...

  22. Sharon: thank you for your comment! I agree that "occasional" is almost certain to fail. I tried it before. I listed it only because it would be wonderful if that were really possible.

  23. Sharon thanks for stopping by. Those deer look so content. I find I too have stuff that I cannot do but that is a visual issue more than physical. My mornings start late but we are also up late.

  24. Me bein 62 do not know how to stop aging and all the baggage that comes with it, friend Sharon ... I have lived in this country for 35 years and me suspect me will continue to do so ... Love, cat.
